Chat is where the KICK community comes alive. Whether you are saying hello to a Streamer, joining a conversation with other Chatters, or reacting to a great stream moment, chat is one of the best parts of livestreaming.
This guide walks you through everything you need to know about using chat as a Viewer on KICK, from sending your first message to using Emotes, mentions, and other chat features.
Getting started
To send a message in chat:
Make sure you are logged in to your KICK account
Click the chat box on the right side of the stream
Type your message
Press Enter or click the send button
Your message will appear in chat for everyone watching.
💡 If you cannot send a message, the channel may have a chat mode enabled (like followers-only or subscribers-only). See "Why can't I send messages?" below.
Using Emotes
Emotes are small expressive images you can use in chat to show how you are feeling, react to stream moments, or just have fun. KICK has both global Emotes (available in any channel) and channel-specific Emotes (available based on your subscription or the channel's settings).
To use Emotes:
Click the Emote button in the chat box (usually a smiley icon)
Browse the available Emotes
Click the one you want to use
Send your message
You can also type the Emote name directly in chat (for example, or the Emote's specific code) if you know it.
Subscriber Emotes
When you subscribe to a channel, you unlock that channel's subscriber-only Emotes. These can be used in any KICK chat, not just the channel you subscribed to.
Mentioning other Chatters and Streamers
To mention someone in chat, type @ followed by their username. For example, @username. The person you mention will be notified that you talked to them.
Mentions are useful for:
Replying to a specific Chatter
Getting the Streamer's attention (though they may not see it if chat is busy)
Calling out fellow community members
💡 Use mentions thoughtfully. Mentioning someone repeatedly or to harass them is against our Community Guidelines.
Replying to messages
Some streams allow you to reply directly to a specific message in chat. This creates a clearer conversation thread, especially in fast-moving chats.
To reply to a message:
Hover over the message you want to reply to
Click the reply icon (a small arrow or speech bubble)
Type your reply and send
Your reply will appear in chat with a reference to the original message, making the conversation easier to follow.
Chat commands
Some channels use chat commands for fun interactions or to access information about the stream. Common commands include:
/help to see available commands
!commands or !help to see custom commands set by the Streamer
Custom commands set by the Streamer or their Moderators (these vary by channel)
If you are not sure what commands a channel uses, ask in chat or check the channel's About section.
Why can't I send messages?
If chat will not let you send messages, one of these may be happening:
You are not logged in. Log in to your KICK account to chat
Slow mode is enabled. The Streamer has limited how often each Chatter can send messages. Wait the required time and try again
Followers-only mode is enabled. You need to follow the channel before you can chat
Subscribers-only mode is enabled. Only subscribers can chat in this mode
You have been timed out or banned. A Streamer or Moderator has restricted your access to that chat
If you have been banned and you think it was a mistake, you can reach out to the Streamer or one of their Moderators directly.
Chat etiquette on KICK
A few basics to keep KICK chat enjoyable for everyone:
Be respectful to the Streamer, other Chatters, and Moderators
Read the channel's chat rules if they have any
Avoid spamming the same message repeatedly
Do not harass, threaten, or send hate to other users
Do not share personal information about anyone else (this is doxxing and against our guidelines)
Have fun and let your personality come through
For the full rules, see our Community Guidelines.
Reporting messages or users
If you see a message or user that breaks our Community Guidelines, you can report it. To report:
Click on the user's name in chat
Select the report option
Choose the reason for the report
Submit any additional details
Reports go to our moderation team for review. For more, see Blocking, muting, and reporting other users on KICK.
