KICK mobile app crashes or keeps closing

If the KICK mobile app is crashing, freezing, or closing unexpectedly, this guide walks through the most common fixes. Most app issues come down to outdated software, low device storage, or a bug that needs a restart to clear.

First, check for app updates

Many crashes are caused by running an outdated version of the app. Updates often include bug fixes for issues you might be experiencing.

On iPhone:

  1. Open the App Store

  2. Tap your profile icon

  3. Scroll down to see pending updates

  4. Update KICK if an update is available

On Android:

  1. Open the Google Play Store

  2. Tap your profile icon

  3. Tap Manage apps & device

  4. Update KICK if an update is available

After updating, restart the app and check if the issue is resolved.

Force-quit and reopen the app

If the app is frozen or behaving strangely, force-quitting can clear temporary issues:

On iPhone:

  1. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause in the middle (or double-tap the home button on older models)

  2. Find the KICK app in the list

  3. Swipe up on the app preview to close it

  4. Tap the KICK icon to reopen

On Android:

  1. Tap the recent apps button (square or three-line icon depending on your device)

  2. Find the KICK app

  3. Swipe it away to close

  4. Tap the KICK icon to reopen

Restart your device

A simple restart resolves more issues than people expect. If the app keeps crashing after force-quitting, restart your phone and try again.

Free up storage space

If your device is low on storage, apps can crash or fail to load content. Check your available storage:

  • On iPhone: Settings > General > iPhone Storage

  • On Android: Settings > Storage (or Device care > Storage on some devices)

If you have less than 1GB free, delete apps, photos, or files you no longer need and try the KICK app again.

Reinstall the app

If nothing else works, reinstalling the app can resolve persistent issues. This wipes any local data corruption that may be causing crashes.

  1. Delete the KICK app from your device

  2. Restart your device

  3. Reinstall KICK from the App Store or Google Play Store

  4. Log back into your account

💡 You will need to log in again after reinstalling. Make sure you know your password and have access to your 2FA method before you delete the app.

Check device compatibility

KICK supports recent versions of iOS and Android. If you are using an older operating system, the app may not work properly.

To check your operating system version:

  • On iPhone: Settings > General > About > Software Version

  • On Android: Settings > About phone > Android version

If your operating system is significantly out of date, update it through your device's system settings. Older devices that cannot be updated may not be able to run the latest version of the KICK app.

Specific issues

The app crashes when I try to go live

Streaming from mobile is more demanding than just watching streams. If the app crashes specifically during a livestream attempt, try:

  • Closing other apps running in the background

  • Connecting to a stronger Wi-Fi network

  • Lowering your stream quality settings

  • Plugging in your charger (live streaming drains battery quickly, and some devices throttle apps when battery is low)

For more on mobile streaming, see Streaming on KICK from your Mobile Phone.

The app crashes when I open chat

If chat causes the crash, the issue may be specific to a high-traffic channel. Try opening chat on a smaller stream to test. If chat works on smaller streams but crashes on large ones, your device may be struggling with the volume of messages.

The app crashes when I try to play a stream

Stream playback issues can be caused by network problems or device performance. Try switching networks (Wi-Fi to mobile data, or vice versa) and lowering the stream quality if possible.
