Streaming on KICK from your Mobile Phone
Mobile streaming is a great way to go live when you're away from your desktop setup — perfect for IRL streams, on-the-go Just Chatting, travel content, and casual community time. This guide walks you through how to stream on KICK from your mobile device, plus practical tips on equipment, network, and safety.
When mobile streaming makes sense
Mobile streaming is ideal for:
- IRL content — out and about, exploring, real-world activities
- Just Chatting on the go — casual community time when you're away from home
- Travel streams — sharing experiences while moving
- Mobile gameplay — streaming mobile games
It's less ideal for:
- Desktop gaming (use your PC and a proper encoder)
- Content that needs high visual quality
- Long sessions where battery and overheating become issues
If you're streaming mobile gameplay specifically, see How to Stream Mobile Games to KICK for the dedicated guide.
Mobile streaming apps
You have several options for mobile streaming. We'll walk through the most common, Streamlabs Mobile.
KICK - Go Live
The official KICK app allows creators to go live directly from mobile devices, supporting front/back camera, screen sharing, and IRL streaming.
Streamlabs Mobile
The most popular choice. Free on iOS and Android, with a familiar setup process and good support for KICK.
Other apps Streamers commonly use:
- Prism Live Studio — free alternative, popular for IRL and mobile gaming streams
- Larix Broadcaster — minimalist option with advanced settings for power users
- Moblin — simpler app for casual mobile streamers
For each of these, the general setup is similar to Streamlabs Mobile (custom RTMP, KICK stream URL, your stream key).
Setting up Streamlabs Mobile
🔑 To get your stream key, visit one of the following links:
1. Download Streamlabs Mobile
Download the app:
- Android: Google Play

Mobile streaming setup tips
A few practical tips that make mobile streams much better.
Stabilising your phone
- Tripod — for static or seated content
- Gimbal — for moving shots without shake
- Chest mount or harness — for hands-free IRL streaming
- Avoid hand-holding for long periods — shake and arm fatigue add up
Audio
The built-in phone mic is rarely sufficient. Consider:
- Wired lavalier microphones — affordable and reliable
- Wireless lavaliers — more freedom of movement
- Shotgun microphones — for outdoor or directional audio
Watch for environmental noise (wind, traffic, crowds) when streaming outside.
Lighting
Phone cameras struggle in low light. A few tips:
- Outdoors — use natural light, but watch for harsh shadows on your face
- Indoors — face a window or use portable LED panels
- Ring lights — clip-on phone ring lights are inexpensive and effective
Power management
Mobile streaming drains battery fast.
- Carry a power bank for any IRL stream over 30 minutes
- Avoid charging while streaming — heat affects battery health and can throttle your phone
- Reduce screen brightness to extend battery life
Heat
Phones can overheat during long streams, especially in direct sunlight or while charging.
- Reduce stream quality if your phone is getting hot
- Take breaks to let the phone cool down
- Avoid streaming in direct sunlight
Network considerations
Mobile streams have unique network challenges.
Connection options
- Wi-Fi — best when available and stable
- Mobile data — 5G or 4G LTE typically works well; 3G is not recommended for streaming
- Hotspot tethering — useful if you want to use your phone for the stream and a separate device for data
Data usage
Streaming uses significant data — multiple GB per hour depending on your bitrate.
- Check your mobile data plan before streaming on cellular
- Consider Wi-Fi-only streaming if you have a limited plan
Network handoffs
Moving between Wi-Fi and mobile data can interrupt your stream.
- For walking IRL streams, mobile data alone is more stable than relying on Wi-Fi handoffs
- Be aware of dead zones along your route
Safety while streaming on mobile
IRL and mobile streaming carries unique safety considerations. A few principles to keep in mind:
Protect your privacy
- Avoid showing identifying details (your home, your real face if you stream anonymously, your address, mail)
- Be careful about tagging your location in real time
- Be aware of who and what is in frame
Respect others
- Many jurisdictions have privacy laws about recording strangers
- Avoid harassing or exploiting unwilling participants
- Be respectful of public spaces and local norms
Personal safety
- IRL streaming attracts attention, which can be unwanted
- Have a backup plan if a situation escalates
- Avoid streaming in unsafe areas, alone at night, or in vulnerable situations
- Carry your phone securely — phones are common theft targets
