Disconnect Protection

Connection drops happen, even to the best setups. Disconnect Protection helps keep your stream alive during brief outages, so a momentary connection issue doesn't end your stream or send your viewers away.

What is Disconnect Protection?

When your stream loses connection, viewers would normally see the player buffering or your channel go offline, which interrupts the experience and can cause people to leave.

With Disconnect Protection enabled, KICK instead shows a short holding screen (a failover slate) to your viewers for up to 60 seconds while you reconnect. This keeps viewers on your channel and gives you time to get back online without losing your audience.

How it works

  • If your connection drops while Disconnect Protection is on, KICK automatically displays the failover slate to your viewers instead of buffering or going offline.

  • The slate shows for a maximum of 60 seconds.

  • If you reconnect within that window, your stream resumes automatically and your viewers stay with you.

  • If you don't reconnect within 60 seconds, your stream ends as normal.

How to enable Disconnect Protection

Note: Your channel must be offline to enable or disable this setting.

  1. Go to Stream URL & Key.

  2. Scroll down to the Advanced Settings section.

  3. Toggle Disconnect Protection on.

That's it. The next time you experience a connection drop while live, the failover slate will appear automatically.

Good to know

  • Your channel must be offline to turn Disconnect Protection on or off.

  • If the failover slate appears during your livestream, it will also be included in your VOD recording for that stream.

  • The slate displays for a maximum of 60 seconds. If you haven't reconnected by then, your stream ends.
