Chat not loading or chat is laggy on KICK

Chat is at the heart of the KICK experience. When chat is slow, frozen, or not loading at all, it can break the connection between Streamers and Viewers. This guide walks you through the most common causes and how to fix them.

First, check if KICK is having issues

If chat is not working anywhere on KICK, not just on one stream, check the KICK System Status page to see if there is a known issue. Sometimes, platform-wide problems affect chat before they affect anything else.

If KICK is running normally, the issue is on your end. Keep reading.

Try the simple fixes first

These steps resolve most chat issues:

  1. Refresh the page or close and reopen the KICK app

  2. Log out and log back in

  3. Try a different browser, or switch from the web to the app

  4. Clear your browser's cache and cookies

Many chat issues are temporary glitches that go away after a refresh.

I cannot send messages in this chat

If you cannot type in a chat, there are a few possible reasons:

  • Slow mode is enabled. The Streamer has limited how often each Viewer can send messages. Wait the required time and try again

  • Followers-only mode is enabled. You need to follow the channel before you can chat

  • Subscriber-only mode is enabled. Only subscribers can chat in this mode

  • You have been timed out or banned. If a Moderator has restricted you, you will not be able to chat for the duration of the timeout, or at all if you have been banned

  • You are not logged in. You need to be logged in to your KICK account to chat

If you think you have been timed out or banned in error, you can reach out to the Streamer or one of their Moderators.

Chat is moving too fast or too slow

On large streams, chat can move incredibly fast, with hundreds of messages per minute. This is normal and not a bug.

On smaller streams, chat may be quiet because there are fewer Chatters online. Engaging with the Streamer is one of the best ways to spark conversation.

If chat seems frozen on a stream that should have lots of activity, refresh the page. Your chat connection may have been interrupted.

Chat works on the web but not in the app, or vice versa

If chat works in one place but not the other, the issue is specific to that platform.

For the web:

  • Try a different browser

  • Disable browser extensions, especially ad blockers and privacy tools

  • Clear cache and cookies

  • Make sure your browser is up to date

For the mobile app:

  • Force-quit the app and reopen it

  • Check for app updates in the App Store or Play Store

  • Restart your device

  • Reinstall the app if nothing else works

💡 If you reinstall the app, you will need to log back in. Make sure you know your password before you uninstall.

Chat has a noticeable delay

A small delay between when a message is sent and when it appears in chat is normal. This delay helps prevent spam and keeps chat stable.

A larger delay, where messages take 30 seconds or more to appear, usually means a network issue. Try:

  • Refreshing the page

  • Switching from Wi-Fi to a wired connection

  • Closing other apps that might be using bandwidth

I keep getting kicked out of chat

If you keep getting disconnected from chat or you see "reconnecting" messages frequently, your network is unstable. This is more common on Wi-Fi than on a wired connection.

Try this:

  • Move closer to your router

  • Switch to a wired connection if possible

  • Restart your router

  • Test your connection on a different network
